Studio logos can be added to select products in ROES automatically once the studio logo has been placed on file with Bay Photo Lab. To be sure that the logo prints properly, we ask that you follow our logo submission guidelines.
Logo submission guidelines:
- Logo must be black & white or grayscale
- Black areas of the logo will display the logo color, gray will be semi-opaque, & white will be completely transparent on the final print

- Size of logo graphic should be 1000 pixels on the longest side, at 250 pixels per inch
To send your logo to Bay Photo Lab for use with ROES:
- Once you have prepared your file according to the above guidelines, ROES can be used to send the file to Bay. In ROES, use the Folders button to navigate to the folder on your computer containing the logo.
- Go to the 8. Drop Box/Album Design tab.
- Select the DROP BOX - To Send Us Logos Only product in the Drop Box - Logos tab.
- Drag your logo file from the Image Area to the area provided in the product.
- Click the Add to Order button, and send the order to Bay Photo.
- Once we have confirmed that your logo has been received and is formatted correctly, you can use the Logo Options in the Extended Options Palette to set the layout's position and color on your desired products.
Note: Logo Options are available on the products in the 1. Standard Sizes -> Logo Prints tab. For more information about using your studio logo in Bay ROES, please email patrick@bayphoto.com.

ROES orders are processed through the Queue Manager. Using the Queue Manager, orders can be sent right away, or saved to be sent at a later time. The Queue Manager also allows for automatic retries, which is very helpful when working with less reliable internet connections.
When you immediately send, the Order Completion Wizard will end with a simple notice that the order has been added to the immediate queue:

The order will be added to the Queue and you can continue working on another order right away while the Queue sends in the background:

With the Queue Manager, you can see transfer rate, total size of the order, and a progress bar. To send one or more orders, just press "Send" on each, or press "Send All" to send all orders. The orders will be sent one at a time.
|
Yes, to schedule an order to be sent later, use the "Settings" within the Queue:

Just enter the time you want the orders sent. From Settings you can also determine how many times to retry to send if the connection fails, and how frequently. We recommend that you set the times to retry for 5 and the Minutes between retry attemps to 10.

Sometimes a computer's power save (or sleep mode) settings can interfere with sending orders in ROES. When power save kicks in, the hard drive stops, and the transmission fails. To solve this, turn off power save on your computer.
To turn off power save on a PC:
- Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
- Open Power Options
- Change the settings under the Power Schemes tab to the following:
- Turn off hard disks: Never
System standby: Never
System hibernates: Never
To turn off power save on a Mac:
- Go to Apple Menu (upper left-hand corner of screen) -> System Preferences
- Click on the Energy Saver icon in the Hardware section
- Under "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" move the slider to Never
- Uncheck the box that says "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible"
- Press Apple + Q to quite System Preferences

If you have another language installed on your computer, ROES may not recogize some information even though you have entered it in the My Information window. You will need to email us your customer.xml file so that we can edit it for you so that ROES will allow your order to send.
To access the customer.xml file:
For Windows, this file is typically in the .BayPhoto folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\.BayPhoto or >Start>Search>.BayPhoto
For Mac:
/Users/Username/.BayPhoto. This file can also be found by performing a search on your home folder. On Macs, folders beginning with a dot are invisible by default. Use one of the following procedures to find the .BayPhoto folder:
Finder>Go>Go To Folder...type:~/.BayPhoto or simultaneously press Command-Shift-G & type the path in the text field. e.g.:
~/.roescache
~/.BayPhoto

Most web-based issues can be resolved with a simple clearing of your Java and browser cach. It is very important to know how to perform these procedures.
To clear your Java cache:
PC Java cache: Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Java -> Cache tab or General Tab "Clear JAR cach" or "Delete Files"
Mac Java cache: Macintosh Hard Drive -> Applications Folder -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Plug-in Settings -> Cache -> Clear Cache
To clear your internet cache:
PC Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab -> Delete Files
Mac Internet Explorer: Explorer -> Preferences -> "Web Browser" section -> Advanced Options -> Empty Cache
PC and Mac Netscape: Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Cache -> Clear Cache

Occasionally problems can be solved by updating the version of Java running on your computer.
To download the latest Java software, do one of the following:
Windows:
Visit the Sun Java Download Site http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Mac OSX:
Run Apple Software Updates (this will automatically check for the most recent version of Java available for your version of OSX)
|
|
On rare occasions, PC users will continue to experience problems launching ROES even after emptying the caches as described above. A complete uninstall and relaunch of Java is necessary to restore your Java settings.
To uninstall and relaunch Java on your PC:
- Go to the Java Download page and download the Windows Offline Installation to your desktop
- Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
- Double-click on Add or Remove Programs
- Delete any program that says "Java, J2SE" in the description
- If you have previously had a successful ROES launch, find the .BayPhoto and the .roescache folders in C:\Documents and Settings\, in the directory with the name you use to log in, and delete them both
- Restart your computer
- Install Java by double-clicking the file you downloaded from the Windows Offline Installation page. When prompted, choose the Typical installation.
- After installation is complete, restart your computer
- Go to the ROES Launch page and Launch ROES

If you encounter other unexpected errors or behavior, an error file called "roeslog.log" is saved. Please email this file to us so we can analyze it to determine what happened.
The main folder that Bay Roes uses is called .BayPhoto. This folder contains the caches and the roeslog.log file. Deleting the contents of the .BayPhoto folder will often cure Bay Roes problems.
To access the .BayPhoto folder:
For Windows, the folder is typically in:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\.BayPhoto or >Start>Search>.BayPhoto
For Mac:
/Users/Username/.BayPhoto. This file can also be found by performing a search on your home folder. On Macs, folders beginning with a dot are invisible by default. Use one of the following procedures to find the .BayPhoto folder:
Finder>Go>Go To Folder...type:~/.BayPhoto or simultaneously press Command-Shift-G & type the path in the text field. e.g.:
~/.roescache
~/.BayPhoto

Some ROES users will experience a drop in performance or other problems while running the application on Mac OSX. The first thing to do if this occurs, is to check for software updates from Apple. Often, a system software update will include a new version of Java--the software that is necessary for running ROES.
To check for software updates on Mac OSX:
- Open the Apple Menu by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
- Click on Software Update.
- The Software Update window will open, and your computer will begin checking for updates. NOTE: You must be connected to the internet to successfully check for and install updates.
- If your computer has found any new software, it will be displayed in the window.
To install software updates on Mac OSX:
- Follow steps 1-4 above.
- Check the Install box next to the software update you want to install. Note: You do not need to install Airport or iPod software updates if you do not have these items.
- Click the Install button. You will most likely be asked to provide your password, and to agree to licensing terms. Follow the instructions to proceed with the installation.
- Restart your computer.
Some problems can also be solved by running First Aid from the Disk Utility in the Applications folder. Apple recommends running First Aid every 15 days.
Visit http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n7565 for instructions on using the Apple Disk Utility.
If these steps do not solve problems with ROES, please follow the instructions for sending your ROES Log to Bay for troubleshooting.

Learning how to "copy and paste" files and other information is a vital skill for anyone who wants to use their computer efficiently.
To copy and paste files into a new folder:
- Use the right mouse button (Windows) or hold down the Control key and click the mouse button (Mac) on an area of your computer desktop that is clear from other files.
- A pop-up menu will appear. Select New Folder to create a new folder on your desktop.
- To rename the folder, right-click on the folder and select Rename, or click ONCE on the folder's name. After a short delay, the name of the folder will be highlighted and you can type in the desired name of your folder.
Tip: It is always a good idea to avoid using the following Special Characters in folder and file names: & < > ' "
- Once you have the folder named the way you want it, locate a folder of images on a CD, DVD, flash card, hard drive, or other media.
- Double-click on the folder of images so that the list of image files is displayed in front of you.
- Press the Cntrl and A keys (Windows) or Apple and A keys (Mac) at the same time to select all of the files in the folder.
Tip: To select specific files from a folder only (instead of all), press Cntrl (Windows) or Apple (Mac) while clicking on the desired file icons.
- Press Cntrl and C (Windows) or Apple and C (Mac) to copy the files.
- Go to the new folder you created on your Desktop.
- Open the new folder by double-clicking on the folder icon, then press Cntrl and V (Windows) or Apple and V (Mac) to paste the files. The files may take a bit of time to paste depending on the size of the files.
