Section 6: APPLYING NODE ATTRIBUTES WITH PAGER

The Attribute Tools can be use to change a node's stroke color, fill color, opacity, text color, and more. You can also apply a mask file or a drop shadow to an image node using the Attribute Tools palette.

To Change/Add Color Attributes on a Node:

  1. Click on the EDIT button and select the node that you want to edit.
  2. Choose the appropriate Attribute Tool for the item that you would like to add/change.

    STROKE COLOR
Edit the stroke color, width, and opacity of the selected node.
    FILL COLOR
Edit the fill color and opacity for the selected node.

    TEXT COLOR
Edit the text color for the selected node (works only for nodes with text).

TIP: The eyedropper tool can be used to select a color from one of the available color palettes, or from any of the elements on your template.

To finalize your color choice and move on to editing the next item, you will need to re-click on the EDIT button. If you don't do this, the eyedropper will pick up the color from the next item you click on, and override your original color choice.

To Change the Image Opacity for a Node:

  1. Click on the EDIT button and select the node that you want to edit.
  2. Click on the OPACITY button in the Attribute Tools palette and use the sliding scale adjust the image opacity to the desired setting.

To Add or Edit a Drop Shadow on a Node:

  1. Click on the EDIT button and select the node that you want to apply the drop shadow to.
  2. Click on the DROP SHADOW button in the Attribute Tools palette.
  3. To apply the drop shadow, you must first check the "Shadow On/Off" button to turn the drop shadow on.
  4. Adjust Shadow Blur, Shadow Opacity, and Shadow Coordinates (X/Y) to your desired settings.

TIP: Drop shadows can take a few seconds to generate. For better performance, we recommend adding them after all of the nodes have been positioned on your template.

To Change Other Node Attributes:

To change an image to black and white or sepia, or to change the font for text, click on the EDIT button and select the node that you would like to edit. Next, click on the NODE button, and select from the available options.

Working With Backgrounds:

To easily add a background image to your layout without creating a new node, click on the BACKGROUND button and browse to the the background image file on your computer. Click OPEN to apply the file.

To remove a background image after it has been applied, Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) on the background of the template, and click REMOVE BACKGROUND.

TIP: You cannot crop a background image when it is applied via the BACKGROUND button. To add an image you can crop, first create an image node that is the size of the entire template, then use the LAYER - button to move the node to the back.

Working With Masks:

An image mask is a graphic file made up of black and white areas. When applied to an image, the black areas of the file will act as a window through which you can see the image, while the white areas are transparent. This is especially useful for creating nodes with fuzzy edges or irregular shapes.

To easily add a mask to an image node, first click on the EDIT button and select the image node that you would like to apply the mask to. Next, click the MASK button and browse to the location of the mask on your computer. Click OPEN to apply the mask.

To remove a mask after it has been applied, Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) on the image node that contains the mask, and click RESET.

NOTE: When adding a stroke to an image node that uses a mask, the stroke will be applied to the outside of the node itself; not the outside of the mask. Drop shadows do not work reliably with masks.
